Jazz à Couches: four decades of vocal artistry
For 39 years, Jazz à Couches has anchored itself in the Bourgogne calendar as a Jazz festival where voice reigns supreme. This 2026 edition pivots around singers: Marion Rampal and Youn Sun Nah bring distinctive timbres, Sanseverino revisits classic songwriting, and Musique Pluriel gathers an amateur choir into the program. Yet drums steal the spotlight too—that instrument born from jazz itself—wielded by inventive players like Patrice Héral who make rhythm shimmer and surprise.
The festival pairs vocal star turns with instrumental innovation. Smoking Mouse bends jazz syntax into daring new shapes; Swing Folie resurrects the Hot Club de France quintet legacy with reverence and joy; Franck Tortiller and Misha Fitzgerald Michel prove that jazz thrives without singing, their vibraphone-and-guitar duet floating like a tightrope. Each evening offers a different sonic texture. The big band roots itself in decades of tradition yet pursues restless invention, Remixing jazz's own elastic rules through fresh ears.
